nice and high. most boots with a wide calf are very short and this is just the boot i have been looking for.

Finally......a boot that actually fits my calves. I have looked for years for a pair of boots that fit properly that cost less than $200. The back of these boots are stretch material so they will work for wide and extra wide calves (we'll say 16" to 20" comfortably). The front is a sort of leather material, which helps to keep the boot from sliding down as the day goes on. Also the zipper goes all the way to the bottom, making it easier to put on. The only problem I have is the soles of the shoe are not substantial - no jumping in puddles and you may want to add some extra cushion. The materials are thin - don't expect a lot of insulation - and it bunches a bit at the ankle. But for the price (purchased them at 40% off on Family and Friends Day) and the fit you definitely get 4 stars.
